Please bring your Suzuki book, practice sheets and any other paperwork you use to your lesson.

Booking individual lessons for your child

Parental input is very important in Suzuki lessons so please be present during all lessons unless arranged prior. With younger children, one of your important roles is to take notes on what your child should practice. Even for older teens, it can still be helpful for you to listen in so you know what your child has been asked to practice and can follow up with them later. Many children do better with some parental input till mid or late-teens. Once your child is completely independent with their regular and effective practice, it is OK for you to not attend lessons.

When you are working with your child at home you are actively in the teacher-role. When your child is having a lesson with me please remember to switch to the parent-role! and be a mostly quiet observer and note-taker.

Individual lessons usually start and end with the child and me bowing to each other.

Children's Masterclasses in Nelson

$10 for each 30-minute class + NCMA enrollment. Classes usually run every second saturday during term-time in Nelson.

The masterclass involves a small group of beginners having short individual lessons and watching the lessons of their peers. We will be working directly on the pieces that the children are learning. Usually I will work with each child individually and sometimes we will work as a group. Children learn a lot by watching the lessons of others.

Children's group classes in Nelson

$8 for each 30-minute class + NCMA enrollment. Any of my students are welcome to attend this group. It includes children of varying levels but most will be in book 1.

The group class involves children playing pieces together. It provides a social network for children and parents. All the children learn the same pieces from memory so playing together is easy. It gives the enjoyment of playing music with a group and the motivation of listening to others play more advanced pieces. There is also the opportunity for informal individual performance.

Students' concert

These usually run once each term on a Saturday afternoon. There is no concert in term 3 2019.

Lessons in Motueka

I teach from my home near Motueka.

Please no food, no chewing gum, and put your phone on silent. Please don't leave children in your car when you come inside for a lesson (unless arranged prior).

Children/siblings are welcome to watch lessons as long as they are not a distraction to me, the student or the parent. If they will need entertainment please bring something quiet and still for them to do, something that will not need your input. Kindle-type readers are fine but please avoid having children play games on digital devices because I find the rapid movements distracting!
