music reading videos for you, the parent
The videos provide a step-by-step, structured path through the pieces in Suzuki violin books 1 and 2 and they cover everything needed to play beautifully and confidently.

However, using the videos alone isn’t truly the Suzuki Method, because an integral part of Suzuki method is regular one-on-one lessons with a teacher (either in person or by webcam).
That’s why this course is most powerful when used alongside individual lessons. If you already have a local teacher, these videos provide great support for practice at home. And if you don’t currently have a teacher, I’d be happy to offer weekly online lessons to guide and support you or your child while working through these pieces.
That said, you are welcome to use the video tutorials on their own. Even alone, they are a valuable learning tool—just keep in mind that without individual lessons, it’s not the full Suzuki Method.
In addition to tutorials on the pieces and music reading videos for you, the parent, there are also music reading videos for your child. The video explain concepts clearly with lots of colourful cards and make it fun to learn.

Who am I?
Hello, I’m Katie Dey, a qualified Suzuki music teacher with over 30 years of experience helping children learn music — and helping their parents feel confident guiding them. I specialise in supporting online students worldwide, and I also teach in-person from my home studio near Motueka, New Zealand.
Learning an instrument takes regular practice — and with the Suzuki method, your role as the home helper is a big part of that journey. I know family life is busy, and finding time can feel like a challenge, but you won’t be on your own. I’m here to help you create a routine and use efficient practice strategies that make steady progress feel doable — even when life is already full.
What is the Suzuki Method?
The Suzuki Method teaches music the way children learn language—through the “mother‑tongue” approach.
• Play by ear first, read later: build strong aural skills and musical memory from day one.
• Parent + child partnership: your daily involvement is the secret to steady progress
• Whole‑person learning: through these music lessons, your child will learn more than just the notes. They’ll develop life skills like concentration and confidence in addition to refining their posture, tone and musicality.

Your family’s satisfaction and my peace of mind are my top priorities.
