Give your child the gift of music

The Suzuki Method is a joyful and proven way for children to learn music.
It emphasizes learning by ear, playing from memory, and having the steady support of a parent or caregiver.
Progress develops naturally through home practice and one-on-one lessons, often enriched with group experiences and concerts.

I offer individual lessons by webcam to children around the world — and in-person for families near Motueka, New Zealand.
Lesson times are flexible and can be booked easily through my online calendar.

Families also receive step-by-step video tutorials to guide home practice, so you’ll always feel confident helping your child — even if you’ve never played an instrument yourself.

Suzuki lessons make home practice a shared, enjoyable time.
Progress unfolds at your child’s pace, nurturing both skill and confidence.
I’ll support you and your child every step of the way, with lessons designed to be encouraging, achievable, and fun — helping your child experience the joy of music wherever you live.

Who am I?

Hello, I’m Katie Dey, a qualified Suzuki music teacher with over 30 years of experience helping children learn music — and helping their parents feel confident guiding them. I specialise in supporting online students worldwide, and I also teach in-person from my home studio near Motueka, New Zealand.

Learning an instrument takes regular practice — and with the Suzuki method, your role as the home helper is a big part of that journey. I know family life is busy, and finding time can feel like a challenge, but you won’t be on your own. I’m here to help you create a routine and use efficient practice strategies that make steady progress feel doable — even when life is already full.

The progress Jesse and Rose have made since they have had lessons with you is nothing short of amazing. They have renewed enthusiasm for the violin and are visibly enjoying themselves as they practice and learn. Well done for inspiring their love of the instrument!

Both Jesse and Rose are members of the Minster Choir I conduct in Yorkshire, UK and have their lessons funded by the church

What is the Suzuki Method?

The Suzuki Method teaches music the way children learn language—through the “mother‑tongue” approach.

• Play by ear first, read later: build strong aural skills and musical memory from day one.

• Parent + child partnership: your daily involvement is the secret to steady progress; I’ll guide you so you never feel lost.

• Whole‑person learning: through these music lessons, your child will learn more than just the notes. They’ll develop life skills like concentration and confidence in addition to refining their posture, tone and musicality.

• Global community: connect with Suzuki institutes and events worldwide, sharing a common musical repertoire.

I look forward to helping you and your child on your musical journey!
